KDubiq - Knowledge Discovery in Ubiquitous Environments - is the first Coordination Action (CA) for Ubiquitous Knowledge Discovery, funded by the European Union under IST (Information Society Technology), FET Open (Future and Emerging Technologies) in the 6th Framework Programme under the number IST-6FP-021321. The KDubiq project has started in December 2005 and ended in May 2008.
KDubiq CA is not a research project in itself. It is about supporting and coordinating research & networking activities within an emerging area called Ubiquitous Knowledge Discovery. The major challenge lies on identifying new relevant research topics on the intersection between highly distributed (and mobile) systems and advanced knowledge discovery systems.
We have put together an overview over the final results and major activities in KDubiq-CA:
The KDubiq research visions have been presented and discussed in numerous KDubiq activities under the common perspective of intelligent machine learning as the major driving technology for the success of the next generation of networked data mining applications that will support such large-scale, ubiquitous, multi-source, and data intensive domains.
For an overview of all KDubiq activities, please have a look at the KDubiq Newsletter. In total KDubiq-CA has organized or supported:
The general overview about the KDubiq activities and final project status has been included in the Final Publishable KDubiq Activity Report
A major event of the KDubiq was the KDubiq Final Symposium held in Bonn, Germany, on May, 13-14, 2008. The partners in KDubiq have presented the final results of the KDubiq project including:
Selected contributions from this event along with the KDubiq Blueprint written by the KDubiq WG chairs, co-chairs and some active Admin. Board members are included in the Springer state-of-art book called "Ubiquitous Knowledge Discovery", that is going to be published in autumn 2008.
The goal of the 2nd KDubiq Summer School held in March, 2-9, 2008 at the University of Porto was to strengthen the KDubiq common ground by integrating the involved fields and bringing together the young KDubiq student community.
Starting with an introduction into embedded systems, more specialized courses focus on wireless sensor networks and data streams. Based on a course on algorithmic foundations of distributed data mining, privacy issues, Web 2.0 and grid aspects of data mining are being taught. All courses came along with exercises for hands-on experience. The trainings materials to the 2nd KDubiq Summer School 2008 are available online
